The District Disease Control Officer stressed on the need for the entire people in the district to take part in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination exercise been carried out by Ghana Health Service towards immunizing majority of the citizens in the country against Covid-19 disease, at least vaccinating 95percengt of the general population. With all these discussions, updates on disease such as monkey pox and Covid-19 vaccination were made known to the participants at the stakeholder’s engagement meeting. He further stressed on the need to still observe safety protocols of Covid-19 disease even after been fully vaccinated with booster doses. There were also discussions on the ongoing Mass Drug Administration on Schistosomiasis for School children and made it known to the people that Schistosomiasis is part of Neglected Tropical Disease and is normally predominant in poor countries and places with poor sanitation and as such stressed on the need to maintain clean sanitation practices.
He stressed on the fact that, Schistosomiasis can affect everyone especially children and agricultural workers. Education on Female Genital Schistosomiasis, signs and symptoms, treatment regimens were carried out during the meeting. Oyeame Akye asked if Schistosomiasis can cause impotence of the penis and was answered by the DCO that it’s possible to cause impotence of the penis if not treated. A sub chief of Adum Banso also asked if there was the need to see a special doctor if one sees signs and symptoms of Schistosomiasis. It was answered that, any health facility can be contacted should in case signs and symptoms of the disease appear. Okyeame Akye asked why Covid-19 vaccination doesn’t start from Children and DDHS answered that,trials are been done before vaccines are produced and administered and as such trials hasn’t been done made for vaccination to be carried for children, as that’s why children are left out in the vaccination.
